“Maromba” is a temporary roof that the riverside dweller builds when the waters
rise higher than normal. When the water rises and reaches the floor of the house the riverside
dweller builds a wooden platform on a higher level. In this new floor he has to build he puts
bedding and other objects that will not get wet to protect the home. This is an extraordinary
situation but life continues in these conditions. The children go to school…
… and the grandfather, with no more land, puts the banana cuttings on a floating platform and waits for the water to
recede. The agriculture will continue on when the grounds come back and the waters have all
returned to normal.
